After a long investigation, and a few dangerous encounters with a dangerous individual named Reman, not many stones were left uncovered at the abandoned facilities.
After putting all their investigation work together, there was a clear picture about what took place at the facility.
The research was centered around a specific species of entities, vast in size and power. They were able to alter DNA of everything around them, and could be recognized by the growth of plants on their backs and around them. Reman was specifically interested as their potential to function as a Collective, able to communicate information instantly between DNA which were altered by the being (like plants, or humans).
Reman, a dangerous individual who worked for Nordic lead a team with 2 head scientists (Tom and Nola), at a distant planet to experiment on an entity, who was part of a species in which Reman was quite interested in. They made a facility specialized in holding it captive, with dimensional barriers surrounding it. It was unknown what he wanted to achieve, but after a lot of torture and research, the entity didn't provide what he wanted to achieve.
Thus, the second facility was made, and they captured an even more powerful entity of the same species. Reman and Tom was going to head the facility, and Nola was left behind at the first. The second entity was aware of the first, but not the other way around. The stronger entity quickly overgrown its cage with cyan plants, which over time escaped to the outside, and started to affect the humans.
Reman was satisfied of the development, confirming his suspicion of its Collective properties, as the being started to affect the behaviour of the humans. Nola, who was against the torture on the beings, eventually got in touch with the second entity, and agreed to let the first entity escape. (at the first facility, resulting in the hole on the side.)
Reman was aware of the development, and knew that most of his staff was under the influence of the entity. Before he escaped with Tom, he ensured that the Entity would never see the light of day, by burning and damaging it beyond what it could take, crippling it. He left all his staff and their families on the planet, making sure they wouldn't spread the being's DNA or information of what took place. Most of the information was deleted from the databanks, and the communication tower was disabled.
Nola communicated with the being, and knew nobody would be able to escape. The being, thankful for letting the other escape, ensured Nola's daughter Nelly would survive, keeping her young and healthy. Since the entity infected everyone with their DNA, they were spared of any pain as the entity would experience it for them, and kept them alive as long as they could in the hopes someone would come who could save them, including Nola. (However, it took too long and the bodies were rotting alive, but they wouldn't feel any pain thanks to the entity.)
Eventually the Entity knew how to activate the Communication Tower, and controlled every corpse towards that location, in the hopes to send a short distress signal. (Which eventually happened, and thus people came, including Reman who got the signal as well, and came to kill the Entity with his new abilities thanks to further research.)
Nola's daughter was still young and healthy as promised, as the Entity poured all its power in her over time.
