The Borutian Stellar Assembly is a new found faction wtitin the G-S16 galaxy, who in their current state, possess little knowledge of other inhabitants of the galaxy.
Species :
Borutians are a species of sentient fungi that can feed themselfs of radiation or other usual sources of food. Boruts are used to underground environments as well as surface ones and most of effects that those environments can bring. They are as well very sturdy organisms that can survive alot of pressure, starvation and heat. Those entities can live theoretically unlimited amount of time. Intelligence in Borutians can be usually asserted by size, as all parts of the fungi can act as a brain (But dont have to, Boruts can simply use other parts of them as appendages), thus increasing ones intelligence the longer it grows. Their growth is limited only by the amount of space that is given. While in the process of reproduction, Boruts split themselfs in a manner similar to how small, one-celled organisms do.
Government :
The fungi possess no government and can be classifiled as anarchists, however they can also be compared to small individual nations, as they often create treaties, regulations and such, in relations to each other to prevent actions that don't benefit any or specific groups of them.
Internal Relations And Divisions :
The fungi are divided between 3 main tribes, each distinction is recognized by color. Weirdly enough, the concept of a nation to those beings appears to be more of "friends" or "enemies", rather than leaders and the people (or subordinates, depending on how one looks at it). thus, making the hierarchy between them very loose.
The first, and the eldest of them is the group of "Orange ones", as they tend to call themselfs. Boruts who are alligned with the orange agreement mainly originated from the northern parts of their homeworld and control that area. Despite them being the oldest out of the three, they are not the dominant force of Borutians, however are deemed as the most "troublesome", due to their past tendencies to create disputes and conflicts with the other groups of the sentient fungi. The coalition waged many wars, and had as well many internal issues, which in the very end made them highly centralised and low in numbers. "Orange ones" have a population of about 38 Borutians.
The second of them are the "Red ones". The youngest tribe, that recently separated itself from the "Orange ones". Few in numbers, however composed by a few of the most experienced Boruts. Because the majority of the "Red ones", are already old Borutians, they are often wary and cautious of new situations, but also extremely experienced in dealing with them. This allegiance was formed only recently, in terms of Borutians, and is somewhat loosely based, however it fulfills it's main purpose : To allow better and easier cooperation with the others. Their territory seems to be around the equator and the south of their homeworld. Current population is 23 Borutians. Their relation with the "Red ones" is weak, and prefer the purple tribe.
The third tribe are the "Purple ones". An evershifting union, made from many young, inexperienced Borutians, mostly 100 years old. The group was created when a cataclism struck the Borut home planet and many of their bodies became divided. Most of the divided parts were expected to quickly die off, but it appears that Borutians under-estimated their own ability to survive and left the cut off parts alone. Unfortunately for them, the divided sections lived, and as a side effect contained a few memories from their past. When the older Boruts learned about that, they quickly tried to reconnect themselfs with the past fragments of them, but failed. The lost pieces were already too independent on their own. The "Purple ones" united about 70 years ago. Their territorial assests are largely spread around the planet. Their population is composed of 124 Borutians.
The Stellar Assembly
The Borutian Stellar Assembly, itself is a different concept from the Borutian interference on the planets. It is an agreement and an union, that holds the purpose of uniting the different tribes of Borutians, in terms of space affairs. It functions independently from other activites, and is a place where conflict is strictly forbidden. Initially, the assembly was composed from only a few Boruts, however, that premise quickly changed, allowing the contribution of all the sentient fungi. The Assembly, in the past could often be described as sort of a donation center, since it used to have it's resources donated, but with the new golden age of space, several mining outposts were estabilished across the solar system the Assembly is in control of, which allows for semi-independency. Nowadays, the Borutians who coordinate, command and dedicate to where resources go are elected by the members of each tribe. ( Each election is held differently from the other, as a result of different states each of the tribes are in ). the Assembly is divided into several divisions, which serve different purposes. Every divison of the Assembly has three members. The divisions go as follows :
The Resources Managment Division
A department, to which all business related to space is handed over to be dealt with. Sometimes, it requires involvement from Boruts that are not members of the Assembly, as to keep it in the direction that Borutians want it to go.
Colonization Managment Division
Is a unit, with the purpose of deciding which planets, moons and such are the most suitable for colonization. It has recently seen less activity, however not so low to the point of being merged with the Resource Managment Division.
Space Exploration Division
Has the task of controling and initiating exploration operations that make their stand outside of Borutian home system. This part of the Assembly is the least conflicted one, and the second busiest.
Internal Security Division
The separation of the Borutians, consequently, has given rise to the Internal Security Division, which upholds the task of keeping corrupcy away from getting into Assembly' colonies, and other facilites that require a Borutian (or a part of one) to operate.
External Security Division
Is a section dedicated to defense, and possible offence against alien enemies. This division is not entriely independent, in comparsion to most others, and requires the opinion of Borutians outside the Assembly to function. As a result each of the Borutian tribes are in complete ownership of one of the battleships, and are free to assign an exclusive fleet to it.
In every of the divisions, the elected Boruts cooperate with each other in order to decide what is the best for their race.
Territory :
Currently, there exists only one solar system under the control of B.S.A, which holds two habitable planets.
The star system is rich in resources, as well as in various stellar objects such as planets, moons, asteroids or planetoids, many of which have been already industrialised in some way.
(Random ship passing the first borutian colony)
The first habitable planet in the system is a 0.7 G Tundra-like world with a thin atmosphere, what resulted in a sparse variation of living organisms on it's surface that mainly prioritise shielding against radiation and efficient use of resources.
Somehow, it's exterior appears to be largely un-inhabited, besides tower-like industrial and monolithic shaped structures that extend several kilometers up. Instead, the major part of amenities is located deep underground, where there is no need for additional radiation shielding to protect electronics and other fragile equipment/
The face of this celestial body is dwelled primarily by plant and/or fungi like organisms that have either evolved to shield against radiation or learned to use it to their advantage. Despite, the current domination of plants, there exists a small population of insects, which ranges from ground dwelling beings similar to ants and worms to surface creatures comparable to wasps or dragonflies.
One of the two main Borutian shipyards is positioned on one of this planet's moons and several space stations can be observed on various orbits. Furthermore, there is a space elevator visible on the surface.
(Plasma weaponry test around the second colony)
The second habitable Borut world is an Earth-like planet, covered in fields and other agricultural formations. It's gravity is about 0.8 G and has a thick atmosphere, which allows it for usage as a farming world. However, that is not it's only function, as Borutians have mounted there several of their research and other alike facilites that don't interrupt the crops.
Wildlife on this planet would normally be expected to be high, however, it appears some sort of a terraformation process has put an end to most of it, whether it was accidental or not can be put to a guess. As a result only a few species of natural fauna and flora have survived. In divergence from the first Borutian world, this one seems to be lacking in huge tower structures.
Many small and big artifical objects hang around of the orbit of this world.
(The gas giant with a small, barely noticeable superstructure around it's northern hemisphere)
Another noticable usage of planets is seen around the seventh planet, a gas giant. It is a blue-greyish gas world with little to no remarkableness, but Borutians have managed put it to use. In result of their long lasting project, they have estabilished a gas mining facility that is utilized to produce fuel for starships as well as other resources that help to maintain the Borutian fleet and other industries.
The installation is a long, thin, string like structure that extends over a several dozens of kilometers, then returns back into the higher atmosphere. The site manages to keep it's orbit thanks to it's rotation. The surface of the structure is made from a very heat resistant material that needs to be constantly substituted to allow the station to survive.
Several of the gas giant's moons are used as refineries or mining outposts. One of the two main Borutian shipyards is positioned on one of this planet's moons
Technology :
Communication
Lorentz Manifold Comms
This method of transmitting information was discovered shortly before the creation of the Fold Drive. The device uses Lorentzian manifolds to transport electrical signals from one place to another in an instantenous manner, allowing for quick FTL exchange of data. In order for the device to work, however, the general position of the transmitter and the receiver are needed.
Detection
Lorentz Manifold Sensor Equipment
Those are a necessity onboard of every newer Borutian spacecraft. The origins of this machine can be traced back to the first creation of the Manifold Comms, when Boruts quickly came to the realization that their device could be easily changed into an active sensor. The machine allows to "see" farther into space at a rate higher than the speed of light. It does that by slightly opening manifolds to allow for interaction between objects such as light or waves.
Within the Borutian research facilites have been attempts to weaponize or to make it so it allows for spaceship travel, however none of them were proven to be successful, as the sensor either :
- Was destroyed due to high energy output
- Was too uncontrollable to effectively use as a weapon
Shielding
Electromagnetic Shielding
It's a one of more common types of shields around the G-S16 galaxy that the Borutians are in comfort of being able to use. The shield's main advantage, atleast in the Borutians' minds is that it is highly versatile, allowing for protection against many kinds of weaponry, be it a laser cannon, or a kinetic one. More so, the manipulation of plasma within the shield allows for creation of projectiles made out of plasma.
Weaponry
Acoustic Weapons
Originally created as a form of pest control, these weapons create high pressure differences in the air in a manner similar to how explosions do. The weapons are used as defensive mechanisms, as Borutians found themselfs to be unable to control the direction of the sound. The power of those devices is about enough to fully liquify an elephant.
Transportation
Fold Drive
The Fold Drive is a machine that allows for FTL travel. It is able to use the existing curvature of space to create lanes/creases across the universe that ships and other objects can travel through. The device doesn't need heavy calculations, as the created lanes themself are attracted origins of the curved patches of spacetime. The drawback of it is that upon creating a crease, the location of where the crease was created is instantly revealed. As another side effect, a certain percentage of gravity is removed upon activation of the device. The machine is able to manipulate the curvature of space, and consequently gravity, due to small hyperdimensional spaces, called manifolds that Borutians have taught themselfs to manipulate.
Energy
Fusion Reactors and Crystal Batteries
The early days of space travel had forced Borutians to create powerful energy sources, as well as energy storages. The effects of that are fusion reactors and immensly powerful crystal batteries that eventually found themselfs to be warship-only equipment.
Misc :
Genetic Manipulation
Since Boruts found other species of fungi which were able to incorporate insects, their interest in genetics had exponentially increased. From that point on, one of the main points of research was genetics, and eventually, Borutians found themselfs to be capable of heavy genetic manipulation within species.
