Life Around The UEG.
Here are some little snippets of life around the United Earth Government. Ranging from civilians to military engagements.
Home
Warrens earliest memory was his grand-mère telling him "Les baies sont pour les oiseaux Warren". He basically lived with his grandparents due to his father being deployed so much. His mother left soon after he was born, so his father had to raise him alone.
He was never that close to his father when he was little, but his love for him grew as he grew. Every time his dad was on leave were his favorites.
Warren was playing with his toy cars on his grandparents’ floor while they watched. The doorbell rang and his grandfather got up and trudged towards the door, wondering who it could be. Turning the handle and pulling the door inward revealed a taller man in his black dress uniform holding a letter.
That was the first time he saw his Grand-papa cry. In the absence of his father, his Grandpapa filled the void. It was definitely unusual to Warren to see the strong stoic man his Grandpapa was crumple emotionally in an instance.
Days later his grand-mère helped him into his suit. He was unsure of why he had to put it on, but the day must be important. "Run along to your Grand-papa Warren, he can help you with your tie.
Young Warren opened the door to his grandfather’s room. His grandfather had his head in his hands. "Grand-papa whats wrong?" Warren asked. "ce n'est rien Warren, laissez-moi vous aider avec votre cravate. Vous savez qu'un jour vous pourriez aider votre propre fils à faire ça. Je me souviens avoir aidé ton père quand on a ton âge" His Grand-papa's tone sorrowed. The gleam gone from his eye.
The car ride to the place where his father would be buried felt like forever. Warren found himself looking out the window, clutching one of the toys he left in his grandparents’ car. Passing through the urban zone and out to the cliffs of Ainu-Jean-De-Luz, they arrived at the place. Warren hopped out of the car, the cold nipping at his face. His grandparents followed him, walking towards the rectangle of gravel, where obsidian black torches burned. A line of Marine Honor guards stood there as well, the flames dancing around their eyes.
More members of Warrens's family arrived, all lining up to watch the funeral process. as well as the honor guards getting ready. The Chaplin began her verses, reading from a leather-bound bible. Members of the honor guard folding his fathers’ flag as it was lifted off of his stone coffin. Handing it to Warren who clasped it. Warren couldn't remember what the woman said. Zoning out until she said "nous disons bien maintenant la prière du Seigneur
Amen."
The crowd was silent for a moment until the UNSC officer leading the honor guard shouted "Face gauche!"
The honor guard turned left. "Présenter les armes!" the honor guard raised their assault rifles "Feu!" Warren flinched as the three-volley salute echoed across the cliffs of Ainu-Jean-De-Luz.
Twelve Years Later
Warren was becoming a young man. He no longer lived in the seaside French town with his grandparents because of their ages. When he was twelve, he moved to Canada to be with his aunt and uncle.
Warren's alarm blared. "Ughhh its too early" he groaned. Reaching for his phone on his desk to check the time. 7:37 am. He still had time to text Liv good morning before getting ready for school. Sliding open the lock screen and navigating to the messages app he saw Liv's name at the top with a new notification. "Good morning Warren I hope you slept well". Shit, she beat me to it he thought. Annoyed in a playful way. "Good morning to you too Liv " he typed, his hands clicking against the screen. He got up out of bed, grabbing a towel off the floor of his room as he headed to the bathroom to shower.
Turning on the nozzle, hot steamy water started to pour out of the showerhead. Warren took off his shirt, looking at himself in the mirror. The days he spent at the gym was paying off. Just as he was about to get in the shower his phone buzzed. It was Liv. "Heyyy what are you up to?' The text read. "Just about to shower". He watched the little bubble pop up to show that Liv was typing. Her message popped up on his screen "Do you wish I was there" Warren blushed and eagerly typed back. Maybe this morning wasn't so bad after all he thought smiling to himself.
Warren was drying his hair and getting dressed. Checking his phone again for the time. 8:00 am. He still had time for breakfast thankfully. Thumping down the stairs and into the kitchen where he grabbed a bagel from the bag sitting on the island, popping it into the toaster all in a few seconds. He called out for his Aunt but got no answer. Must have left for work he thought.
The toaster chimed; his bagel was ready. His phone blowing up as well with the latest gravball updates. shoving the bagel between his teeth he grabbed his phone. Scrolling through the update feed seeing his least favorite team Gauss was eliminated. Pumping his fists in the air and screaming yes, dropping his bagel in the process. "Five-second rule" he heard a familiar voice say. Liv was standing in the kitchen doorway. "I didn't know you were coming over this morning Liv" Warren said. 'Well, I thought I would surprise you Warren. Now we're going to be late for class so come on." She walked out the front door of the townhouse. Warren grabbing his backpack and watching her walk ahead. It was rude to stare but she was his girlfriend.
Hopping into the passenger seat of Liv's car waiting outside and slamming the door shut. To see Liv checking her makeup in the rear-view mirror. "Liv you look pretty enough, lets go before we're late" Warren spoke, letting a laugh escape him. Liv blushed and pressed the ignition button for her car. They were off. Making their way to school.
Later that Night
Warren and Liv were sitting on the hood of her car. Looking over the city from its limits. All the lights and the tall buildings almost extending into the clouds. Warren wrapped his arm around Liv, drawing her in close before taking his other hand to tuck her hair behind her ear. Liv gave a little smile and leaned in to kiss him.
"Her lips are so soft. Oh god is that her tongue?" warren thought to himself as they made out. This was the first time he had ever done anything like this with a girl, but he was glad it was with Liv." Liv broke away. "It is getting kind of cold. Wanna get back in the car?" "...Sure thing" They hopped off the hood and moved to the back seat, finding a couple of blankets. Liv giggled as Warren laid down in the back seat, nearly falling off.
Warren awoke, Liv on top of him. Her nude body snuggled up against his underneath the blanket. He kissed the top of her head and lay back down, not wanting this to end or time to go forward. Liv stirred, blinking her big brown eyes and reaching up to kiss Warrens' cheek. "Good morning," she said smiling as she spoke. Warren said the same to her as she laid her head back down on his chest. Minutes or what felt like hours of silence passed. Well, it was silent except for the occasional breath. the silence was broken with Liv asking if Warren wanted breakfast.
The two got dressed and hopped in the front seats. They were heading to the nearest Jim Dandy's they could find. On the drive over, Warren turned on the radio. Music was bopping and blaring through the car speakers. "And pull me from the grave 'cause I am still Alive" warren sang, recognizing the song. Liv joined in too and by the end, they were both grooving and jamming to the music.
They finally reached the Jim Dandy's. Parking in the diner’s lot and getting out. They stood in the restaurant's foyer and waited for a waiter/ress to serve them. Warren's eyes dotted around the room before settling on a corkboard with posters. A United Nations Space Command recruitment poster was hung on the wall as well, catching Warren's eyes. He remembered his father, and how he served during the end of the Human-Covenant war. His father sacrificed himself allowing the rest of his team to retreat. Warren was thinking of his father, and how long it had been since he last saw him. Decades it had been.
Three months later
"Move it marine"....clack clack clack. The bark of an assault rifle hurt Warren's ears as the rounds hit the dirt beside him. "Your gonna die in the mud marine". Warren crawled belly down under the barbed wire. his clothes soaking up dirty water and smeared with mud. The instructor continued yelling at him in the inky black as he finally made it out of the barbed wire obstacle. Coming up to a wall with a thin rope he had to climb up the top. He clambered up the edge of the wall standing at the top of it. "Jump marine" Warren plummeted to the ground. his heart racing....
One Year Later
...His heart raced as his drop pod plummeted through the atmosphere. Today they were dropping right on top of an insurrectionist compound. The air within his pot heated up as he passed into the stratosphere of the planet, his pod's outer layer coming a bright orange. ### fwoomb. His pod slammed into the ground and Warren looked at each of the doors release bolts and the door flew outwards hitting the ground. grabbing his M7 from the weapons rack and as well as his pistol from the opposite one. The rest of his team was close by. The eight men and woman fanned out as they walked through the woods and up to the compound.
The team reached the main gate. Placing a breach charge on the locked door. Booom. There was a hole where the door was and several men wearing blue coveralls holding old assault rifles or tools and in the confusion, Warren and his team's training kicked in. The M7's they each carried fired a swarm of soft targets. The rounds tearing right through the blue un armored suits of the insurrectionists. The body's hit the ground. Blood pooling from underneath them as the ODST's stepped over them to check out the rest of the facility checking to see if the insurrectionists were actually dead by putting a round into their heads.
They encountered a few stragglers and a man controlling this small operation who they had taken prisoner. Maybe he would be helpful in figuring out what this place exactly does.
As the team waited for extraction in the main area where they came in Warren popped his helmet off, undoing the seal and sliding it up. Rubbing a hand over his shorn hair and then putting his bucket back on. He stared at the prisoner and thought of Liv. After this mission, he would be getting his regulated shore leave. It had been almost two years since he last saw her.
Soon they were picked up by extraction craft. The prisoner would serve a great deed in releasing data. Names, locations, arms deals you name it. This could be a small tide in the war.
