Node_Man As a general rule of thumb, the smaller the building grid, the less lag. I'd suggest first deciding on a rough frame in blueprint mode and then filling it using cut sections build and tested as seperate ships.
Also, keep weapon ranges and fireing arcs in mind, clustering a massive space station with EB's will get you killed due to a range disadvantage and even missiles don't have unlimited range.
For your own sake, don't try to completely fill anything bigger than the normal building grid, you'll just end up with way too much mass or an abudance of unneeded internal parts. Keep everything scaled to ship size; whereas multiple armor lines would be too havy and completely unneeded for smaller ships, a massive ship needs them to be able to withstand the firepower of similary sized foes. The same with defenses like shields or flak and weapons: the bigger the ship, the more you need of them.
