Menarark was just there, hovering with his legs crossed mid-air, and the staff in front of it. As soon as one of the knights enter his field of vision, he points his hand to the knight, and exclamates:
"You! Tell me where your Emperor is, he has run away from a conversation we were having, quite rude of him. I must still converse with him."
