The plumes of smoke clear, the material from the detonations dissipates in the usual nuclear fallout from the sudden desintegration of a large ammount of material. Then, as the vision opens up on the area again, revealing that the weaponry were but a fraction of its usual efficiency.
The lasers who should pen down to the core of the planet barely even got there, reducing themselves a thin streak of merely a few meters in diameter after meeting resistence within the crust. The torpedoes exploded and opened up huge craters, however, they were unable to set off the atmosphere, or damage the core of the planet.
In fact, looking upon the core of the planet, they'd see the same effect that was seen before on one of Redford's planets. A large ammount of ubiquitous plant-life, the likely perpetrator of the defense of the planet. One could estimate the ammount of firepower necessary to sucessfully bore to the core of the planet given a steady increase in predictable resistance, resulting in an ammount of ordinance far beyond the reach of the Crimson Imperium.
