Hi there,
I've been thinking about ship classes like frigates, cruisers and capital ships, and how they can work together in combat. Up until recently, I've assumed 1,000,000 credits is average minimum capital ship cost, while 100,000 credits was average minimum interceptor cruiser or escort cruiser cost. Perhaps 3,000,000 credits would be average minimum flagship cost, the highest classification I know besides superweapons.
But then I realized that with the Huge Ships mod, many starships exceeded my size classifications. How would those starships fit in this classification system? Are Huge Ship starships all superweapon class, like Star Wars' Imperial Death Star, or are they flagship class, like Star Wars' Separatist Malevolence or Invisible Hand? If they're flagship class, I may have underestimated starship size classification.
In order to determine starship size, I use the cost of the ship. So my question is: what is the cost range for each starship class? For example, what is the average min/max cost range for a medium frigate before it stops being a medium frigate? I know size, firepower, etc. play into classification but I believe larger/more powerful ships cost more, so cost may be a better and more convenient average. I was also curious to hear the community's opinion, as different players may categorize starship classes differently.
If anyone knows, could you please post your approx. min/max costs for:
1: Fighter
2: Interceptor Cruiser (Small Escort)
3: Frigate (Small/Medium/Large)
4: Cruiser
5: Capital Ship
6: Flagship
7: Superweapon
Extra (if you're interested):
1: Fighter Carriers
2: Transports (cargo/troop/etc.)
3: Misc.
I would appreciate any help, as I do enjoy learning about starship combat to help improve my Cosmoteer skills. I also hope that this question and any answers provided may help future readers learn about starship classification.
