So, I was looking at some good uses for nukes, and I read something about being able to switch missile types mid-battle. Basically, you'd use EMP or normal missiles, and once the defences are down, you'll switch the launcher to accepting nukes, and start nuking.
That's an interesting way to have some deeper layers of strategy and some additional logistical challenges.
So, why not have a similar thing for ammo consuming weapons? It would be cool to have some different ammo factories that might produce:
- normal ammo
- armour piercing ammo that's weaker against structure, but offers better penetration and damage to armour
- disruptor ammo that's weaker against structure and armour, but ignores forcefields
- shot ammo that's more damaging close range, but doesn't have much range
Then it also would be cool to have the option to store ship-wide weapon and crew settings, so you can quickly switch between profiles, and have long range or short range loadouts.
